Is Rice Good For Diabetes

Hello, I’m Ty Mason from,
researcher, writer and I have type 2 diabetes. Today I’m going to answer the question, is
rice good for diabetes. But before we get into that, make sure you

easy topic to answer. I did when I first looked at it. But then during my research I found there
are over 40,000 types of rice worldwide. If I were to try and cover them all, well,
I am NOT going to try and over them all. There are basically 3 categories of rice. Long-grain rice accounts for about 75 percent
of the domestic crop. Medium-grain rice the type of rice most commonly
processed to make cold cereals. Short-grain rice grains clump together when
cooked. Easy to eat with chopsticks, it is ideal for
dishes like sushi. Within these categories, there are basically
2 types of rice: brown and white. Brown rice is the whole grain with just the
first outer layer (husk or hull) removed through milling. It retains its fiber and germ which contains
vital nutrients. White rice is brown rice that has been milled
to remove the bran and much of the germ, reducing fiber and nutrient content drastically
So, let’s deal with this rice question. Brown rice is higher in magnesium and Vitamin
B-6. It is high in dietary fiber and relatively
low in sugar. Fiber helps to lower the glycemic load of
a food. Also long grain rice is more efficient in
lowering the glycemic load than short or medium grain. The culprit in rice that is difficult for
the person with diabetes is carbohydrates. If you have diabetes, you know carbs and sugars
are our enemy when it comes to maintaining healthy blood glucose levels. One cup of long grain brown rice contains
45 grams of carbs. For many of us with diabetes, that is our
whole allotment for the entire meal. So, is rice good for diabetes? I am going to have to say it depends on the
type of rice and amount you eat. As with any other food, my philosophy is moderation
is the key. Serving sizes and how often you eat any type
of food is what really matters. If you like rice and want to eat it on occasion,
then the best rice to add to your diet would be long grain, brown basmati rice. The worst rice to add to a diet for a person
with diabetes would be short grain white rice. So if you are fan of sushi because of the
fish and the omega-3s, be careful how much you eat. I hope this answered your question is rice

  1. Your channel is so informative !! I was eating quacker oats the bananas and cream & i have type 1 diabetes and immediately was like oh no not good

  2. I just started using rice this week and it lowered my blood sugar by 200 points and I'm a severe diabetic. And I use insulin every day. The ketogenic diet cut my usage to half but eating rice is really cutting it down ! What is going on? And that was white rice long stem. Next I'm going to brown rice as well. But it slowed me down nearly stopped me. If this keeps up along with my vegan ketogenic intermittent fasting diet I won't be a diabetic any longer!

  3. I'm glad that I can explore different varieties of rice with better GL and GI than white. However, white rice, is my absolute favorite food. I was devastated when I learned I couldn't eat it anymore.

  4. Which rice should you eat if you're diabetic? You don't have to eat any of them BUT If you must eat rice Wild Rice is the best of all. It ranks 40th on the GI index

  5. I thought that potatoes and white rice that's been cooked and cooled is a resistant starch that is excellent for diabetes
